Alternative Education

In ALRES, diversity is celebrated and individual differences are respected. Each child has an equal chance to excel and shine!

ALRES is one of the few DepED- Recognized learning institutions for students with neurotypically-diverse abilities, abiding by an inclusive and outcomes-based educational framework. The alternative curriculum is anchored on developmentally-appropriate practices and is aligned with the K-12 curriculum. We optimize each child's full potential through innovative and research-validated teaching methodologies that aim to produce happy and independent lifelong learners.

Preschool

Preschool

Children learn best through play. The ALRES Preschool program incorporates play into fun learning experiences that are embedded in a thematic and integrated child-centered curriculum. Students are gradually transitioned from a one-on-one therapy setting to a structured preschool group setting where they can practice going through school routines with same-age peers. The small teacher to student ratio (1:4) allows for quality learning and differentiation in spite of diverse abilities and needs.

Grades 1-6

Grades 1-6

Two lower school tracks cater to specific supports needed during this period of schooling. The Multi-Grade Mainstream Track is designed for students who are being prepared to enter the "big school" and is closely aligned with the regular Grades 1 to 6 prescribed DepED curriculum. This would include content areas of Language & Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, Filipino, Art, Music and Life Skills.  On the other hand, the Independent Living & Functional Academics (ILFA) Track focuses more on teaching functional Reading & Math with emphasis on practical, simulated learning experiences that would foster independence at home, as well as preparing for community integration and productivity. Learning builds on the child's unique interests and special skills in the other intelligences.

Transition & Pre-vocational Programs

Transition & Pre-vocational Programs

Real-world experiences are progressively introduced, while soft work skills are honed as the student goes through six transition levels that would prepare him to become as self-sufficient as he could possibly be. Students practice daily living skills, self-determination, interpersonal and prevocational skills related to housekeeping, clerical work, basic baking and food and beverage service. ALRES has partnered with a TESDA-accredited professional baking school, Artisan Baking Institute, and with Puzzle Gourmet Store & Cafe and Cucina Di Francesco in order to provide on-the job training during the last two years of the transition program. Our students are given administrative, kitchen and dining duties under industry mentors, as they discover and develop attitudes, interests and skills that may help them attain their transition goals and long-term plans in collaboration with their families.

Homeschool Program

Homeschool Program

Alternative Education includes homeschooling as an option for those who have difficulty thriving in a traditional educational environment because of health or behavioral limitations, as well as for traveling families whose lifestyle prevents them from staying in one locale for the length of a full school-year.  The ALRES Homeschool Program is anchored on both the DepED K-12 Curriculum and the ALRES Modified Curriculum aligned with its program offerings.  Children enrolled in this program are initially assessed by Senior SPED Faculty at the start of the designated school-year, then an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) or Individualized Transition Program (ITP) is developed for the student focusing on his strengths, interests and specific needs across developmental domains, subject areas and competencies.

Inclusive Education Support

Inclusive Education Support

ALRES functions as a Learning Resource Room provider for students who are already enrolled in mainstream or inclusive schools, but still need specialized help to catch-up with academic expectations. Unlike regular education tutorials, special education tutorials are anchored on developmentally-appropriate strategies that bridge the child's current level of functioning to grade-level expectations through scaffolding. By allowing children to be successful in learning, they develop greater motivation to persevere. They are also taught compensatory learning strategies and helpful work attitudes in a non-threatening environment that also offers interdisciplinary support from a complete team of therapists and child psychologists.

Online / Blended Learning

Online / Blended Learning

ALRES has shifted to online and blended learning delivery modalities with the restrictions on face-to-face classes due to the pandemic. All levels, from preschool to transition, have pivoted to an online platform, combining synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences.
